Guapinol ranges from Mexico to Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and the Antillies. In Costa Rica, it is found along the Pacific coastal plane in dry and humid forests. Guapinol has a linear grain and is highly appreciated for its quality and hardness. It is mainly used in artisanry and furniture-making. The Guapinol serves as a stately, ornamental tree - as a towering and monumental testament to the magnificence of nature.

It is against the law to cut down a Guapinol tree in Central America without a government issued license, which is why our tropical wood wine bottle holders are handcrafted from either privately farmed trees or reclaimed from local industry.

This is because as the cork absorbs a small amount of wine, it becomes slightly swollen and forms a tighter seal against the glass than if it was dry. The tight seal keeps air from leaking in, which can ruin the wine.
